16447 Seth was born in Northampton, Hampshire County, MA on 29 April 1723 and died September 1813 in the same location at 90 years of age. Seth married Mary Edwards on 8 May 1746 and she was born on 23 November 1725 in Northampton, MA and died on 6 May 1799 at Wilbraham, MA. Mary was the daughter of Nathaniel Edwards, Jr. and Mary Strong. His second wife was Sybel Aldredge and they were married on 8 March 1801.
"Seth Clark ... was converted by Jonathan Edwards when he was 12 years old. Deacon Ebenezer Hunt's Account Book shows that Seth had a shop and in 1744, he covered E. Hunt's house and was paid for 9 days work. On 13 July 1757, Seth bought 111 square rods of land in South Hadley which he sold on 4 October 1765. Hampden Co. Deeds 7:8 & 119. This was the portion of South Hadley that became Granby and the Granby Bicentennial Book states that Seth was the first Clark in town and settled on the north side of what is now Bachelor St. opposite Porter St. As a 'hewer of timber,' Seth helped to build the first meeting house. At the first Town Meeting in 1768, he was elected a Surveyor of Ways. In 1767, a group of Baptists met at the house of Zacharia Eddy in Belchertown. They decided to establish a church in Wilbraham and Seth was chosen to keep the records. These records were in the museum of the Hampden Historical Society in 1979. On 12 March 1768, the Brotherly Covenant of the Baptist Church in Wilbraham had 160 members and on 15 October 1768, Brother Seth Clark was invited to 'take the watch and lead the church.' In 1779, a church was built northeast of the East Wilbraham Cemetery between the cemetery and Seth Clark's house. Under Seth's leadership, this church became one of the largest Baptist Churches in New England attaining a membership of 341." (Colonial Clergy - Frederick Weis; Isaac Backus Papers; Edith M. Nyman)

16449 Short History of Thomas Mendenhall, Sr.
Author: Veda Mendenhall Didericksen (great-granddaughter)
Transcription: Chad G. Nichols (4th great-grandson)
Thomas Mendenhall, son of Abraham Mendenhall and Elizabeth Wells, was born 10 March 1806, at North Carlson, Delaware. He married Mary Ann Sinex, daughter of John Sinex and Susannah Stidham.
In the year of 1843 he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. his wife joined three years later in 1846. Before joining the church they were very desirous of coming west and joining the Saints in Utah. They left Delaware and went to Nauvoo where they began making plans for the long hazardous journey across the plains. On the 22 of July 1845 their little son, Edmond, who was almost four years old, passed away. 27 April 1847 they lost their baby girl, Elizabeth. She was two months old.
They left Nauvoo and started westward but after reaching Council Bluffs, his wife became critically ill and passed away on 27 April 1848, leaving her husband with four children to care for alone. She was buried at Council Bluffs. In March 1850 he married Catherine Barton and they continued on the journey westward, reaching Salt Lake City on 15 September 1852 and settled at Spanish Fork.
In the spring of 1860 Thomas with his family came with others to Idaho and settled Franklin, Idaho. He was a farmer and trader, traveling between Franklin and Salt Lake City, buying and selling merchandise.
His second wife passed away and he married Margretta Nielson. He was the father of six children who were Susannah, George Madison, Louis, Henry, Edmond, Thomas Jr., and Elizabeth.
He died at Dayton, Idaho on 2 September 1888, at the home of his son George Mendenhall

Notes: The Mendenhall Family Cemetery is located on a small hill on private land between Dayton and Preston, Idaho, on the south side of Highway 36 between the homes labeled as 2456 W. & 2876 W. - GPS Location: N042.05'46.4" W111.56'19.0" - The cemetery is a "traditional" pioneer cemetery in that it is in a field, without grass, and among the weeds. There are 15 burials, with 16 markers (one marker is for Elmer Mecham Mendenhall who died serving in World War I and was buried in France). The fence around the cemetery was constructed by LeRoy Mendenhall Perkins and his son.

16450 Six years after Edward’s birth, the last of Richard and Priscilla’s children arrived. William was born May 18, 1840 and christened June 28, 1840. He had just passed his second birthday when his mother died. Who cared for him after her death is not known.
William died of consumption on May 4, 1849 at the home of J. Richins, who was present at his death. William was 9 years old. There was at that time three Richins whose name started with “J”—John, Joseph, and Joseph. John was William’s brother, but he was with his brother Edward at the Wager home and too young, so that eliminates him. There was Joseph, the eldest son of William, but he also was too young and unmarried when Priscilla died.
This left Joseph Richins, a brother of Richard. He married Ann Davis in 1829. Their first son had died. There were three daughters, Maria 10, Juliann 7, and Ellen 6, and two sons, Mark 5 and Peter who was the same age as William. Joseph apparently took William to raise with Peter. Joseph’s wife, Ann, died of complications of childbirth just four months prior to William’s death. Maria, their eldest daughter, took over the care of the motherless family. She was present when the baby died. Joseph was present when his nephew, William, died of pulmonary consumption.
